The power of visualization to achieve your goals

When using daily visualization there are a few different steps remember. The first step is receptive, during which you need to be relaxed, and allow your images and thoughts to come and go through your mind without picking and choosing. Let the images come and go as they naturally would. During the second step, you need to put your mind into active mode, meaning that you will consciously pick the images and pictures that you want to see. These are both important steps to creative imagination, and once practiced enough, they will come very naturally.

Some do experience a fear of looking at themselves, being afraid of what they may encounter during their visualization. This fear results in the inability to visualize anything at all. Once you reach this stage, the fear can become somewhat like a mental block. Try to visualize a slower page to overcome this mental block. By slowing down the pace, try to imagine small details like smells of the air, or colors. Mainly, just remember that the fears only really surface from the things that you may not want to confront head on. Once you have decided to take the step and face your fear, it’s easy to realize that you had no real reason to be afraid at all.

The Process of Visualization

o Set Your Goal
Choose a goal that is easy for you to believe in for yourself and can be obtained in the near future. By choosing something in the near future, you will increase your feelings of success while learning the process of visualization. This choice can be something that you want to work toward, achieve or create. Once you have more experience, you can take on more difficult or challenging problems, but for now, keep it simple

o Create a Clear Idea or Picture
Produce your idea or mental picture of the situation exactly as you would like to see it. Think of this idea in present tense, so that it exists in your mind as it is already there and how you want it to be. Try to use all five of your senses to make it as real as possible, thinking of sounds, smells or feelings. Try to draw a picture of this scene exactly as you have pictured it, and then store it away to look at later.

o Give your vision a positive energy
Always keep a very positive outlook on your goal, and picture yourself working to achieve your goal. There is no better cheerleader for you than yourself, so use yourself in assurance that you can achieve this goal. Don’t let any negative feelings or self doubt get in your way. As we grow and change, our goals will grow and change also. While working in the process to reach your goal, you may change as well. If this is the case, and your goal isn’t quite what you originally wanted, don’t spend your time trying to reach the old goal, just go ahead and modify it to fit the new goal in mind. Once you do reach your goal, don’t take it lightly! Be proud of yourself, congratulate yourself and make a big deal of it, it’s a huge accomplishment.

Once you have set your goal, keep it at the front of your mind, thinking about it often. This goal isn’t only to be used during meditation and visualization, but needs to be thought about while you’re doing your daily activities also. By thinking of your goals often, it will become a habit for you, making it easier to be part of your life everyday. This results in your goal becoming reality, instead if seeming so far away and unobtainable. Don’t think about your goal to the point of obsession, this of course will only result in stress, which is the exact opposite of what you want for yourself.
